SRK’s Jawan: A Foolproof Plan To Revive His Career, But What’s in It For Bollywood?

Nupur Jha

King Khan’s Jawan is all set to hit cinemas on September 7, 2023. With its official trailer released yesterday, August 31, 2023, fans are pouring in their support and excitement for the film’s release on the big screen. Many celebrities have also come forward to praise the film’s trailer on their social media handles.

Since the rise of OTT platforms, Bollywood has witnessed a huge decline in its movie business, as audiences have now become more inclined towards watching mythology, fantasy, humour, and something grand for which it is worth purchasing a cinema ticket. However, with the huge success of Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan’s stardom has once again seen a resurgence at the box office. So how does SRK’s Jawan fit into all this?

After Zero did not do too well at the box office, SRK made a comeback with Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in Pathaan. At a time when Bollywood had a handful of blockbuster hits, Pathaan was declared the 25th highest grossing blockbuster of all time with a collection of ₹1,050.3 crore. According to trade experts, Jawan too has the potential to gross over ₹100 crore on its opening day itself. This could become another major hit for Bollywood this year. With the stardom of Shah Rukh Khan, the movie has a pan-India appeal and also has a huge chance to revive the industry along with the actor’s career.

Now, let’s take a look at the contributing factors that can lead to Jawan’s roaring success on the movie charts:

The Magic Of Atlee’s Direction

Arun Kumar, aka Atlee, is famous for his continuous blockbusters in the Tamil industry. The South Indian director has a devoted fan base in his industry. With a few movies, Atlee established himself as one of the youngest successful directors, especially working with A-list actors. He became popular because he is known for coming up with something new with his actors. With engaging screenplays, his own way of storytelling, and films that cater to the masses but also entertain families, Atlee has created his magic. And this can be seen in his blockbuster movies like Raja Rani, Vigil, Theri, and Mersal. Jawan marks Atlee’s directorial debut in Bollywood. And fans are excited to see how his dramatic magic will work out in conjunction with Shah Rukh Khan’s acting chops.

Collaboration With South Indian Industry

After RRR’s Oscar-winning success, the South Indian industry, especially the Telugu industry, is on the rise. With the movie and its commendable success around the world, the industry has gained more fame and appreciation at the international scale. From the huge success of movies like K.G.F.: Chapter 2, Vikram, Kantara, and Sita Ramam to the national award-winning hits 777 Charlie and Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, the South Indian entertainment industry is at the top of the charts right now. Jawan has collaborated extensively with the South Indian industry, be it in acting, directing, or music. This will not just benefit the movie but also give Bollywood a chance to build its market like Bahubali did.

Music, Cast, And Special Appearances

With its Marvel cinematic style, action-packed scenes, and the charm of SRK, Jawan seems to have everything that will suit the current movie palette of the audience. The film also has a soundtrack composed by Anirudh Ravichandran, who is making his debut as a solo composer in Bollywood. He is famous for his works Why This Kolaveri Di and Selfie Pulla, Petta, Jersey, Thaana Serdha Kootham, etc. Jawan has famous actors in its cast, including Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Yogi Babu, Sunil Grover, and Riddhi Dogra. It also has cameos from some big superstars like Vijay, Deepika Padukone, and Sanjay Dutt. With such a promising cast and soundtrack, Jawan might be able to cater to an audience on a large scale.

The Grand Level Approach

SRK’s Jawan became the first movie where the actor lip-synced in three different languages, i.e., Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. His song Zinda Banda has different shots for each version. The song also included 1,000 female dancers, making its own record. The music gained over 35 million downloads within 24 hours of its release. The trailer launch was also held at the Burj Khalifa with a fan meeting event. The promotions, including motion pictures, first looks, teasers, and background music, are top-notch so far.

With a double role, SRK’s Jawan might be able to quench the thirst of his fans, who are eagerly waiting to see their superstar. With all of these, there are high chances that Jawan might be able to pull off what SRK and his fans are looking forward to and more. The rest can only be ascertained after the film’s release!
