Octopath Traveler has HD-2D art style which beautifully blends retro pixel art with modern effects. It might not be considered “visually stunning” by everyone’s standards, but still, those who love the game has immensely praised it!

Alongside his fairy companion, Gallica, Will embarks on a journey to lift a curse placed on the kingdom’s lost prince. The game’s combat system combines traditional turn-based mechanics with real-time elements, rewarding players for exploiting enemy weaknesses. Be warned that the game is immensely long! Metaphor: ReFantazio will take you 65 hours to complete the main story itself!

The game’s turn-based combat is enhanced by the “Baton Pass” system, allowing players to strategically chain attacks. Persona 5 Royal is considered not just among the best turn-based RPGs, among the best RPG games ever, but keep in mind that it is also the longest. With a gameplay time of over 100 hours for the main story alone, even with sleepless nights, it will take you days or even weeks to finish it! 


2. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Set in a dark fantasy Belle Époque setting, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 follows the volunteers of Expedition 33 as they set out to destroy the Paintress, a being causing the yearly Gommage, which erases those at or above an ever-decreasing age. Played from a third-person perspective, the player controls a party of characters, exploring areas and engaging in combat. Its turn-based mechanics has been combined with real-time aspects, which allows players to dodge and counterattack in real time. It has been hugely praised for redefining turn-based RPGs, and many also consider Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 the best game of 2025, even surpassing high-budget AAA games like Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
