Bloody Daddy is the latest action thriller film from Jio Studios, starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead role, supported by Ronit Bose Roy, Sanjay Kapoor, Diana Penty, Rajeev Khandelwal, and more. The film is adapted from the French film Nuit Blanche and is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar.
Bloody Daddy tells the story of an undercover police officer who finds himself in a race against time to save his son and recover a bag of cocaine worth Rs 50 crore.
Shahid Kapoor stars as Sumair, a narcotics agent with the Delhi police. The film begins with Sumair, along with his colleague Jaggi, successfully busting a drug trafficking ring and confiscating a large shipment of cocaine.
However, things quickly go awry when the vengeful drug lord Sikander Chowdhary kidnaps Sumair’s son and steals the bag of drugs. This sets into motion a high-octane chase across Delhi and Gurugram as the wounded but determined Sumair embarks on a one-man crusade to retrieve the stolen drugs and rescue his son.
At one point, the movie makes the viewers question which of the narcotics cops could be secretly working for the drug cartel. Is it Sumair, who is shot early on and nurses his wound throughout the film while trying to bond with his son? Or could it be Samir, who keeps receiving mysterious phone calls? Or perhaps Aditi, who switches between assisting Sumair and Samir, is attempting to portray herself as tough and focused?
Shahid Kapoor delivers an effortless performance as Sumair, portraying the many shades of his character with nuance and depth. You can see the wheels churning in Sumair’s mind as he tries to outwit his opponents. Ronit Bose Roy plays the sinister yet funny drug lord Sikander Chowdhary, delivering a balanced performance that keeps you engaged throughout. The camaraderie between Sanjay Kapoor and Mukesh Bhatt provides some comic relief. Rajeev Khandelwal and Diana Penty deliver honest performances in their respective roles. The direction by Ali Abbas Zafar also keeps you on the edge of your seat.
If you enjoyed the over-the-top action and dark humour of films like Bullet Train and other Coen Brothers comedies, then you will love Bloody Daddy. The film is absurd, unhinged, and manages to blend drama with comedy.
The cinematography and stylized action sequences featuring knives, guns, and fistfights keep you engaged. The unintentional humour stemming from the COVID setting works well and adds to the brisk pace, especially in the first half. However, the second half feels slightly static as the action takes precedence over the humour. The film suffers from a lack of substance, relying too heavily on action sequences to drive the plot forward. By the climax, the never-ending action fails to generate any excitement or suspense, ultimately ending the film in an anticlimactic and predictable way.
Final Word
While the story may lack originality, Bloody Daddy makes up for it with its crazy antics and wit. Shahid Kapoor and Ronit Bose Roy have a blast with their over-the-top characters and their comic chemistry. If you’re in the mood for an entertaining action thriller, then Bloody Daddy will hit the spot!
