HomeGamingRanking of All Main Assassins Creed Games From Weakest to Strongest

If you love the Assassins Creed Games, make sure to read this entire list; we rank them from weakest to the strongest.

The Assassins Creed games have been part of gaming culture for more than eighteen years, and the series continues to grow with new ideas, new locations, and new heroes. Fans return to these titles because they mix history with action, parkour, exploration, and memorable stories. Each new entry introduces a different era and a different tone, which helps the franchise stay fresh even after so long. Some players prefer the classic stealth approach while others enjoy the newer RPG direction. With so many Assassins Creed games to choose from, ranking them is difficult, but every long running franchise has highs and lows. Even the lowest entries still have dedicated fans and interesting qualities.

(This list includes only the main entries of the franchise and avoids the smaller entries including the VR game)

14. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

AC Syndicate - Assassins Creed games

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate takes place in Victorian London and follows the Frye twins as they fight against Templars while building their own gang. The gameplay is fast and focuses on quick movement, grappling hooks, and combo-based combat. The map is fun to explore, and the setting is visually strong even if the tone feels lighter compared to earlier Assassins Creed games.

The reception for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was positive but not as strong as expected. Many players skipped it because Unity had problems at launch. Sales were lower than usual, but critics praised its performance and stability. The things that received the most criticism was the combat and the story. Some feel that it was a good game that simply arrived at the wrong time. Keep in mind that being lowest on this list does not make it a “bad” game, it is just that the other Assassins Creed games are better.

13. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

AC Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla focuses on Eivor’s journey from Norway to England during the Viking Age. The gameplay is large in scale with raids, settlement building, exploration, assassinations and heavy combat. The world is impressive and beautiful, but the story is generally considered weak. Plus, the game is very long, with over 60 hours of repetitive missions, for the main story alone. This can cause players to feel tired. It delivers strong atmosphere, but it loses some of the classic identity found in older Assassins Creed games.

Valhalla sold extremely well and became one of the bestselling games in the series. Critics liked the production quality but players were divided on the length and repetitive content. Despite mixed opinions, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was successful in terms of numbers and proved the series was still commercially strong.

12. Assassin’s Creed Unity

Assassin's Creed Unity

Assassin’s Creed Unity takes place during the French Revolution and follows Arno as he uncovers Templar secrets while dealing with personal tragedy. The gameplay features advanced parkour and dense crowds, which make Paris feel alive. Unity has one of the most beautiful cities in the franchise and offers strong stealth when it works correctly.

At launch Unity faced many technical problems and this damaged its reception. Sales started high due to excitement but dropped after the issues became widely known. Over time the game gained a better reputation as patches improved performance. Today many fans see Unity as a flawed but impressive entry among the Assassins Creed games.

11. Assassin’s Creed Rogue

AC Rogue

Assassin’s Creed Rogue tells the story of Shay Cormac, an Assassin who becomes a Templar after a crisis of belief. This change in perspective gives the game a unique angle. The gameplay is similar to Black Flag with ship combat and exploration in colder regions. Rogue feels familiar but has interesting moments because of its darker themes.

Sales for Assassin’s Creed Rogue were moderate because it launched the same day as Unity on older consoles. Critics considered it solid but not innovative. Players who tried it often praised the story but agreed that the experience felt more like an expansion of Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag rather than a full step forward.

10. Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Assassin's Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji Assassins Creed games

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set in Japan and features two protagonists Naoe and Yasuke with very different backgrounds. The story mixes stealth, open world exploration, and traditional Japanese culture. The gameplay blends traditional stealth combat with the heavy combat of the latter titles.

Reception for Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been mixed. Critics praised the setting but felt the overall execution changed too much from what some fans expected. Sales are decent because the Japan setting generated hype. It also is the most controversial game in the entire franchise, mostly due to the inclusion of Yasuke, an African character in a Japanese setting.

9. Assassin’s Creed III

Connor Kenway - Assassin's Creed protagonists

Assassin’s Creed III follows Connor during the American Revolution as he joins the Brotherhood and faces both political conflict and personal loss. The gameplay introduces new wilderness mechanics, naval missions, and large scale battles. The setting feels bold and different from earlier Assassins Creed games.

At release Assassin’s Creed III received strong sales and high expectations. Critics liked the ambition, but some players felt the pacing was slow. Some also criticized the main character Connor as they found him uninteresting. Over the years the game’s reputation improved, and the remaster helped bring more attention to its strengths. It remains an important part of the series. What many players are still upset about is the death of Desmond, as they feel that it led to the modern-day storytelling getting boring and almost non-existent.

8. Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Assassin's Creed Mirage

Assassin’s Creed Mirage follows Basim in ninth century Baghdad and tries to return to the stealth roots that defined the earliest Assassins Creed games. The gameplay focuses on parkour, infiltration, investigation, and close quarters assassinations. The story is shorter but more focused than recent entries.

Reception for Assassin’s Creed Mirage was mixed to positive. Critics enjoyed the return to classic mechanics but some players felt the game was too short and lacked depth. Sales were solid because older fans welcomed the classic style. Mirage is respected for trying to restore the identity of the original era.

7. Assassin’s Creed Revelations

Assassin’s Creed Revelations completes Ezio’s story and connects it with Altaïr’s final moments. The narrative is emotional and meaningful for long time fans. The gameplay expands city tools and introduces bomb crafting and hook blade movement. Istanbul is atmospheric and rich in culture.

Reception for Assassin’s Creed Revelations was generally positive. Critics praised its story but felt the gameplay did not innovate enough. Sales were strong because the Ezio trilogy was extremely popular. Many fans now look back on Revelations as a satisfying conclusion to one of gaming’s most iconic characters.

6. Assassin’s Creed 1

Altair - Assassin's Creed Protagonists

Assassin’s Creed 1: The game that started it all! The story follows Altaïr during the Third Crusade as he uncovers corruption and learns the true meaning of the Assassin order. The gameplay is simple compared to newer titles, but it has deep atmosphere and memorable targets. The world design is focused, mysterious, and unique among Assassins Creed games.

The original game gained massive attention on release and sold extremely well because it felt different from anything else at the time. Critics praised the concept but one thing that received criticism was the repetitive side missions with little to no depth. However, the visuals and assassinations still stand out 18 years later. Over time the community has come to respect Assassin’s Creed 1 as a classic with a strong identity and timeless mood.

5. Assassin’s Creed II

Assassin's Creed II

Assassin’s Creed II, a fan-favorite game, tells the story of Ezio Auditore as he becomes an Assassin after his father and brothers are falsely convicted and executed. Medieval Italy feels alive and rich with Renaissance culture and memorable characters like Leonardo da Vinci. The gameplay improves every system from the first game and adds more freedom and variety. Although it can feel a bit outdated in 2025 and 2026, it is still fun and immersive.

Reception for Assassin’s Creed II was overwhelmingly positive. Critics and players praised the story, design, and character development. It sold extremely well and is often considered one of the greatest Assassins Creed games ever made. Its success shaped the direction of the entire franchise.

4. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag

Assassin's Creed IV

Another fan-favorite, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag follows Edward Kenway, a pirate during the Golden Age of Piracy who eventually gets involved in the Assassins’ fight against the Templars. The gameplay mixes naval combat, exploration, and stealth. The Caribbean setting is lively and full of activities both on land and sea.

Black Flag received strong reviews and excellent sales. Critics praised the freedom and fun gameplay, and players loved the pirate theme. It remains one of the most beloved Assassins Creed games and introduced mechanics that influenced later entries.

3. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

AC Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is set in ancient Greece and follows either Kassandra or Alexios. The world is massive and full of quests, choices, and battles. The gameplay focuses on RPG progression, naval exploration, and open world freedom.

Reception for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was very positive. Critics praised the scale and depth while players enjoyed its choice driven storytelling. Sales were high and it became one of the most successful Assassins Creed games of the modern era.

However, many players were disappointed, and they still criticize the game as it moved away from the traditional stealth formula to become a full-fledged RPG title. And yes, even though the game is not a traditional “Assassin” game, it is undoubtedly one of the best RPG games ever made.

2. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood

Assassins Creed Brotherhood - Assassin's Creed games

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood continues Ezio’s story in Rome right after the events of Assassin’s Creed 2. The gameplay introduces new tools, city rebuilding, and Assassin recruits. The story is strong and offers a great balance between action and character development.

Brotherhood was praised by critics and fans alike. Sales were excellent and many consider it the peak of the classic era. The game refined everything that made the Renaissance saga great and solidified Ezio’s status as the face of the franchise. If Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is considered the best RPG title in the franchise, then Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is definitely the best traditional stealth-based Assassin’s Creed game.

1. Assassin’s Creed Origins

Assassins Creed Origins - Assassins Creed games

Assassin’s Creed Origins tells the story of Bayek and Aya during the birth of the Brotherhood in ancient Egypt. The world is detailed and full of exploration. The gameplay introduces RPG mechanics, smoother combat, and and a unique and engaging story that feels emotional and powerful.

Reception for Assassin’s Creed Origins was extremely positive. Critics praised its world building and players loved its fresh direction. Sales were strong and the game revived the franchise. Today it is seen as one of the most important and impactful Assassins Creed games ever made.

Many players consider Origins to be an RPG, however despite its massive open world and RPG systems, Assassin’s Creed Origins is not an RPG at all, as it has a single fixed ending, and a linear storytelling. In fact, it is a mixture of the traditional systems and the RPG elements which we see expanded upon in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
