Similar to Hollywood, 2024 has mostly been a disappointment for Indian movie enthusiasts. Even hugely anticipated movies such as Singham Again and Pushpa 2 proved to be below average films without a proper story or screenplay. Here, we shall take a look at some of the most anticipated movies of the year 2025, hoping that the next year, we might not have the same level of disappointment.
5. Alpha
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha is a 2025 Hindi spy film starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. Set in the YRF Spy Universe, Alpha will be the first female-led film in the franchise. Alia Bhatt has proved that she can play action roles quite well with Jigra, and her fans expect a lot from this film.
4. The Delhi Files
The filmmaker who shook us with the harsh, brutal and untold story of the Kashmiri Pandits is set to return with the Delhi Files. The film will focus on significant historical events in Bengal, particularly the Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots. Although Agnihotri has been criticized for taking a “right wing” and pro-government stance, only time will tell if his next film will expose an untold reality like The Kashmir Files, or will be a government mouthpiece like The Vaccine War. The film is set to set to release on 15th August.
3. Game Changer
Even though S Shankar has given us some of the best larger than life movies, such as Anniyan (Aparichit), Enthiran (Robot) and Nayak, his last movie Indian 2 was disappointing due to cringeworthy dialogues and songs, and unrealistic action scenes. Despite having a unique and interesting premise, the execution utterly failed. However, S Shankar’s next movie Game Changer, starring Ram Charan in the lead role, is set to hit the theatres in around one month. Let us hope that we will see something new and entertaining! Game Changer, which is the first collaboration between Ram Charan and director S. Shankar, is set to release on 10th January 2025.
2. Chaava
Directed by Laxman Utekar, (known for movies such as Mimi and Luka Chuppi), and starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, Chaava tells us the story of Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, son of the legendary Maratha king and warrior, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Whenever we hear about historical films being made, we often get worried about misrepresentation, like it happened with Samrat Prithviraj. Vicky Kaushal is undoubtedly a talented actor who has proved himself again and again- therefore, fans and enthusiasts are hoping that the film will show the real historical facts without watering anything down. The film is set to release on 14th February.
1. Jolly LLB 3
Indian cinema needs more films like the Jolly LLB franchise, which brutally exposes the harsh realities and corruption in the Indian legal system. The third part of the franchise, the film brings together Arshad Warsi from Jolly LLB 1, and Akshay Kumar from Jolly LLB 2, which is why fans are immensely excited for the movie! The film is directed by Subhash Kapoor, who had also directed the previous two parts, so we can hope along with giving a strong social message, the third part will be as entertaining as the previous two! The film is set to release on 11th April 2025.
