Mohsin Khaiyam (Senior Sub Editor)

If you live in a town like Assam’s Dibrugarh, you need to stand out when it comes to your choice of car. The city, located almost 500 km from Guwahati, has attractive destinations and not much of a traffic issue. So we know you need a perfect car to travel within the town and also to take a trip towards Arunachal, Nagaland, or even Dehing Patkai, or maybe towards Guwahati. The list does not include the latest cars, but it does have some practical ones. So we have listed five cars for you to choose from:

1. Renault Kwid

The Kwid is one of the most successful small cars in India, and if you think of practicality, this is the most useful one. The ground clearance is impressive, and with 800cc and 1000cc engine options, this has a lot on offer. The car comes with both manual and automatic transmission options. The mileage is an impressive 20 km/l. It is priced between Rs. 4.64 and Rs. 6.09 lakh.

2. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

The Grand i10 Nios with European styling is a really cute and comfortable car. It comes with a tonne of modern features and amenities. The Grand i10 Nios has a Sports version that comes with a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine. This car is a perfect option for cruising around Dibrugarh town in a small car that packs a punch. 3. Tata Nexon

After the Indica, the Nexon might be Tata’s revolution, as it is the perfect city car. It has enough space for a family of five and a massive boot space. If the driver is a good one, it delivers 16 to 18 kmpl in the city with the AC on. To add some more features, Tata gave it three modes: sports, economy, and City. It is the perfect car if you are looking for a medium-sized car for daily use as well as some adventurous trips. In some instances, people have reported a mileage of 23 km/l with the AC on. The Nexon, however, is a bit pricy, with its price listed between 8.1 and 15.5 lakh.

4. Tata Punch

Tata Punch, ever since its launch, has taken the Indian market by storm. A rugged exterior, ample ground clearance, and premium features make the car a perfect match for commuting within busy town streets and also taking long drives. Available with a petrol engine, it offers a manual and an automatic transmission option. It is also known for its 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP. The car is priced between ₹6.00 and 9.54 lakh, which makes it quite a great deal.

5. Maruti Suzuki Alto 800

While people might be offended that we placed the Alto at the bottom, this is because this car is the most popular but also has limited features. The Alto is a legend, but it does not feel comfortable. It is compact and has space issues for the passengers. However, for a person’s first car, the Alto 800 is the perfect choice. It delivers a mileage of 22.05 kmpl, and it is quite reliable. Not many people can complain about the car breaking down. The only complaint is that the passengers need to squeeze in as there is not much leg room. The Alto serves the purpose of being a practical car. You can take it anywhere! Seriously! The car can be seen in hilly regions, giving competition to major SUVs. The Alto is priced between ₹ 3.39 lakh and 5.03 lakh.

Horizon Score: 3.8 out of 5
