The best cars suitable to tackle Kolkata’s traffic
If you have ever been to Kolkata, you will know that everything in the city is simply admirable, apart from its jammed traffic scene, which is quite a challenge. Although it is not as hectic as Bangalore, manoeuvring a car through the crowded streets is still somewhat of an uphill task. You need to find a place to park, you need to avoid the trams that are ages old, and you also need to have a car that does not guzzle gas. Here, we have enlisted five such cars that you can drive in Kolkata without any issue. Check them all out:
1. Maruti Suzuki Swift
The Swift has to be the most popular car on the Indian road, as it is both affordable and fuel-efficient. It comes in several variants, with each having some great features. However, the car being a hatchback is quite a great option to cruise around the city as it does not need much space. The cherry on top? It delivers around 22 kmpl, and that too in the city. However, safety would be a concern for this five-seater.

Now people might ask, How can a Bolero be a city-friendly car? Well, to answer that, let us explain that most people in India prefer manual cars, and in terms of being a Bolero, it definitely is the best option (in the writer’s personal opinion). Since you will be stuck in traffic a lot, the Bolero’s clutch does not tire down your leg. In fact, for people who love driving, the Bolero offers a great experience. You do not need to accelerate when you are in traffic; the torque is enough that just releasing the clutch makes you go along. Also, a city mileage of almost 16 kmpl of diesel is impressive. Apart from this, it has enough space for seven people, making it an ideal family car.

After the Indica, the Nexon might be Tata’s revolution, as it is the perfect city car. It has enough space for a family of five and a massive boot space. If the driver is a good one, it delivers 16 to 18 kmpl in the city with the AC on. To add some more features, Tata gave it three modes: Sports, Economy, and City. It is the perfect car if you are looking for a medium-sized car for daily use as well as some adventurous trips.

The new Alto K10 is another car for those who love driving but have a limited budget. Just under the Rs 5 lakh mark, the Alto is an ideal car for the city. While there are some complaints about the space, it does make up for it with the performance. Some users even claim that they get a mileage of 22 kmpl in the city, which is definitely impressive.

5. MG Comet EV
Since we were talking about cars that can be practical in cities, we had to mention an EV. Although there are a lot of EVs on the market, some even better than the Comet, we had to add the Comet because it is more practical. Since you will be out on work in Kolkata, you alone would need a car that gives you AC, helps you store some bags or groceries, and has at least one passenger with you. So the Comet fills up all the check lists. It is easier to park, and it is friendly to the pocket. On a single charge, it delivers 240 kilometres of range. You can move around the city, but on bad roads, you might not really like it. Also, this is not a highway car. So it is best for the city and is an alternative to a motorcycle.
