As we look ahead to 2025, the gaming world is looking forward to several exciting releases. Whether we talk about popular franchises continuing to expand their universes or about fresh, newer games on the horizon, gamers have a lot to look forward to. These upcoming titles are set to redefine their genres, offering a mix of action, deep storytelling, and innovative gameplay that will capture the attention of fans worldwide. Among the most anticipated games, there are a few that we feel stand out. Let us take a look at some of them.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
The Assassin’s Creed franchise is one of the most popular gaming franchises ever. When the first game came out in 2007, the makers never anticipated the game to become as much of a success that it did. Since then, there have been numerous other games in the franchise, the most successful ones being – Assasssin’s Creed II (2009), Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood (2010), Assassin’s Creed Black Flag (2013), Assassins Creed Origins (2017) and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018). Though the series carved a niche for itself in the stealth genre, it started gaining criticism because it started leaning more towards the RPG genre, rather than the traditional stealth genre.
The trailer of the latest Assassin’s Creed game – Shadows, have been met with mostly mixed reviews due to several reasons. Many players have criticized Ubisoft for focusing on “making more money” rather than coming up with a good playable game, especially after the release of Star Wars Outlaws. Set in feudal Japan, Assassin’s Creed Shadows features two playable protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. The game is set to release on 14th February 2025. Only time will tell if the game will disappoint, or it will match up to Ubisoft’s past AC titles.
Little Nightmares 3
The Little Nightmares series, known for its disturbing, and creepy atmosphere, is an immensely successful game in the horror genre. Despite it being a lower budget platformer game, rather than a full big budget AAA title, the game has managed to create a mark for itself in the horror gentre. Little Nightmares came out in 2017, and after its success, we got a sequel after four years- Little Nightmares 2 in 2021.
Now four years later again, Little Nightmares 3 will bring players back into a world full of twisted environments and terrifying creatures. With the introduction of co-op gameplay, players can navigate this nightmarish world together with friends, solving puzzles and escaping horrific monsters in what promises to be an even more thrilling and immersive experience! Developed by Supermassive Games, the game is anticipated to release sometime in 2025.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PC Version)
It would be nearly impossible to find anyone who hasn’t heard of Spiderman- one of the most iconic and popular superheroes! Throughout the years, we have had a ton of Spiderman games, though none of them were as successful as Marvel’s Spiderman and its 2023 sequel Marvel’s Spiderman 2. After a successful launch on PlayStation 5, the game is making its way to PC on January 30, 2025. One impressive feature that Insomniac Games has stuffed into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the ability to seamlessly switch between the dual protagonists of the game: Miles Morales and Peter Parker. The story revolves around Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they face off against two major threats. The first is Kraven the Hunter, who arrives in New York City and transforms it into a deadly hunting ground for super-powered individuals, including the city’s formidable heroes. The second threat is the alien Venom symbiote, which bonds with Peter, corrupting him and pushing him towards madness. As the symbiote negatively influences his behavior, it strains his personal relationships with his loved ones.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
Kingdom Come Deliverance is one of the most favorite games for fans of historical RPGs. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 promises to return fans to an immersive world of brutal war and unforgiving medieval politics. The first game set a high bar for realism, and the sequel is expected to build on that with even more detailed environments, a deeper storyline, and improved mechanics. Expect new characters, intricate political plots, and a vast open world to explore, all grounded in the historical setting that made the first title so dear and special to fans. Developed by Warhorse Studios, the game is set to release on 11th February 2025.
Avowed
Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed has generated significant excitement, especially for fans of their previous RPG titles like Pillars of Eternity. Set in the Eora universe, Avowed promises a sprawling world filled with rich lore and complex characters. The game will feature deep role-playing elements, with players able to explore various cultures and factions, while engaging in a story of power, politics, and magic. Seeing the excitement among RPG fans, Avowed should definitely be one of the most successful RPGs of 2025.
Grand Theft Auto VI
The GTA games has received a lot of popularity and success over the years, probably due to its immersive storylines and it being one of the earliest open world crime games. Grand Theft Auto VI is perhaps one of the most anticipated open-world game of the decade, not just the year. Rockstar’s flagship franchise is expected to redefine what we expect from open-world games, bringing a new level of detail to its cityscapes, characters, and stories. Not only are players expecting cutting-edge graphics, but the game will allow them to live out their wildest criminal fantasies in a city teeming with life. Whether you’re engaging in high-speed chases, grand heists, or just exploring the map casually, GTA VI may turn out be one of the most outstanding games of the decade.
The Witcher IV
The Witcher IV is the next big chapter in CD Projekt Red’s beloved Witcher series. Even though Witcher 3 released back in 2015, it set the bar high for open world RPG and fantasy games. The game proved to be a massive success among RPG fans. It was such a success that Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s’ Creed Odyssey are believed to be massively inspired by Witcher 3, despite the fact that Assassin’s Creed is a much more successful franchise than the Witcher franchise. The next instalment will bring players back to the gritty and fascinating monster-filled world of Geralt of Rivia, though sources reveal that Geralt will most likely not be the main protagonist. With promises of an even larger world, more fascinating monsters, and even more interesting characters, Witcher IV might become another landmark in the RPG genre.
As 2025 draws nearer, these games are sure to keep gamers engaged for months, if not years, to come. If you are a gamer, make sure to keep an eye on these releases!
